São Paulo – The São Paulo Supermarkets Association (Apas) will hold the 34th Apas Show from May 7 to 10 at São Paulo’s Expo Center Norte. One of the premier industry events in the world and South America’s biggest, it will welcome 19 companies from five different Arab countries: Egypt, Sudan, the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon and Tunisia. Thirteen companies are from Egypt, four are from the UAE, and one each is from Sudan and Tunisia. The embassies of Lebanon and Tunisia in Brazil will be represented as well.
The trade show focuses on deal-making with South American countries. Its 2017 edition welcomed over 70,000 people, featuring over 700 exhibitors over 35,000 sqm fairgrounds, with 560 visiting companies from 61 countries. Deals amounted to BRL 7 billion.
The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce is responsible for the event’s Arab pavilion for the fifth year straight. Arab Chamber president Rubens Hannun said “the Chamber’s mission is to promote Arab-Brazilian trade. Joining the region’s leading supermarket industry show is of the utmost importance,” he added.
Arab Chamber international business executive Fernanda Baltazar said some of the products available are well-known and established on the Brazilian market, like olives, olive oil, dates, spices, hibiscus and gum arabic. “The idea is to promote diversity in foreign trade by broadening the range of Arab goods on offer, like beverages and biscuits.”
Throughout the week, the Arab Chamber will arrange for the Arabs to visit supermarkets, city market Ceagesp, and the Port of Santos.
