In meetings with authorities in Egypt this week, Brazilian minister Marcos Montes suggested increasing and simplifying Egyptian licenses to meatpacking plants in Brazil in order to increase supply as a way to deal with the surging prices.
Food prices are still high a year into the pandemic in Brazil. Meat, maize and wheat costs kept climbing in February. As for the Arab countries, food inflation is plaguing the likes of Lebanon, Sudan and Yemen.
FAO index points out a sharp fall of 3.4% in food prices last month on March. Sugar prices plunged by 14.6%.
Last month, the increase in prices reached 0.33%, below the 1.26% registered in June.
