Rio de Janeiro – The Extended Consumer Price Index (IPCA) registered an inflation rate of 0.33% in July, below the 1.26% registered in June. With the result, the IPCA has reached 2.94% year-to-date, and 4.48% year-over-year. The data was shown this Wednesday (8) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
The price of food and beverages went down 0.12% in July. The sector, which had registered a hike in prices of 2.03% in the previous months, was one of the areas responsible for the falling of the official inflation rate from June to July. Despite the drop, on average, of food prices, eating out saw a price hike of 0.72% in July.
Another group that registered a deflation in July was clothing (-0.6%). Transportation also contributed for the fall. Despite still registering an inflation in July (0.49%), the rate was way lower than the one seen in June (1.58%). The same happened with housing, with an inflation rate that went from 2.48% in June to 1.54% in July.
