Brasília – Fortaleza Maritime Passenger Terminal in Port of Mucuripe, Ceará will be auctioned in March 2020. According to the Ministry of Tourism, the passenger traffic facilities and parking lot area will be leased to the private sector.
Companhia Docas do Ceará, which runs the Port of Mucuripe, estimates that after the lease the passenger traffic in the terminal will climb by around 50%. “The lease will pass on the responsibility to a private player that will focus on running the place, thus we’ll be able to devote further efforts to cargo transport,” said Docas do Ceará president-director Mayhara Chaves.
Since it started operating in 2014, the unit received 42 ships and around 63,500 tourists, being 16,000 only in 2018.
The group that offers Docas do Ceará the biggest amount will win the auction. According to the public notice, the controlling company will run an area of 27,640 square-meter for 25 years (extendable up to a maximum of 70 years). Moreover, the public notice determines that the lease pays fixed instalments of BRL 54,435.28 (USD 13,131.20). In return, they can charge a maximum tariff of BRL 59.31 (USD 14.31) for departing and arriving passengers as well as a maximum traffic tariff of BRL 39.29 (USD 9.48). The company will have to invest BRL 1.6 million (USD 385,960) in the terminal facilities.
