Dubai – Dubai welcomed 16.73 million overnight tourists last year, an all-time high. The number is a 5.1% increase from a year before, according to data released by the emirate’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (Dubai Tourism) published this Tuesday (21) on the Emirates News Agency (WAM).
According to WAM, tourism contributes 11.5% in Dubai’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). International tourism spending reached USD 27.9 billion.
Top source markets are India, Saudi Arabia, United Kingdom, Oman, China, and Russia, delivering 7 million visitors in 2019. Then come the United States, Germany, Pakistan, and Philippines. It’s worth pointing out that the emirate holds a huge community of foreign workers.
Some noteworthy highlights include France, Egypt, Italy, Nigeria and Kazakhstan.
The emirate expects to receive more tourists this year, since it’ll host Expo 2020 world exhibition starting on October 20.
