Brasília – The Brazilian balance of trade, i.e. the country’s exports and imports, started the year with a deficit of US$ 375 million, as informed today (11th) by the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade.
In the period from January 1st to 10th, with five business days, exports totalled US$ 2.526 billion, a figure lower than imports, which amounted to US$ 2.901 billion.
Despite the deficit, the result early this month was better than that of January 2009 (deficit of US$ 529 million), which was influenced by the international financial crisis in foreign trade in the beginning of last year.
In 2009, exports totalled US$ 152.995 billion and imports, US$ 127.647 billion. The resulting trade surplus was US$ 25.348 billion.
