São Paulo – Trading company MBR Company has been operating in the Arab market and already plans to expand its business in the region. Currently, the company sells fruit to supermarkets and distributors in Dubai. Limes are the main product exported.
"We are also starting to sell grain and eggs and are analysing the possibility of exporting juice and mineral water,” explained Renato Miralla, a partner at the trading company. Our main destination is Dubai, but we know that from there the products also reach Oman, Saudi Arabia and Iraq,” he said.
MBR Company already has an exclusive representative in Dubai, who operates in the prospection of new clients and in the operational follow up of imports from Brazil. However, the potential of the market in the Middle East results in the trading company having greater targets for the region.
"We are planning to open a warehouse and a commercial office in Dubai to have control of imports and distribution there. We are studying this for 2013 or 2014. Before that, we want to have safety for greater investment,” explained Miralla.
The businessman believes that Dubai offers very great perspectives for business with trading companies. "There is lack of production of foods in the region and Brazil is well positioned as a producer and distributor,” he said. This year alone, the trading company has already sent 42 containers of fruit to the Emirates, with around 900 tonnes of limes.
MBR Company has a base of around 20 suppliers, of which five export to the Emirates. In the Arab country, the company has five active clients.
Currently, the main market for the trading company is Europe, including countries like Portugal, Italy, France, Germany and England. In the complete list of importers from MBR Company there are 10 to 15 nations. Apart from limes and industrialized products, the company also operates with foods like grapes, papaw, sweet potatoes, figs, mangoes and apples.
Despite a greater volume of business on the European continent, Miralla stated that the Emirates are the first country in which the company is studying opening a branch, as they already have established "very interesting" business there. "We see that, in the long term, the tendency for growth is even greater than in Europe, so the idea is to set up roots there.”
Established in 2004, MBR Company is headquartered in the city of São Paulo. The company has a team of four people and an export volume that ranges from 120 to 200 tonnes a week.
