According to information by the Consulate of Lebanon in Rio de Janeiro, the show will last 35 minutes, ending live at the Christ the Redeemer statue, where the ecumenical ceremony will have representatives of different religions.
The explosion in the Port of Beirut occurred on August 4 last year, leaving 214 dead, 6,000 injured, and USD 15 billion in damage. It added to the financial and social crisis the country was already facing and the COVID-19 pandemic. The news caused a great commotion in Brazil and mobilized the population for humanitarian aid to Lebanon.
Last year, the Consulate General of Lebanon in Rio de Janeiro promoted, in partnership with TV Cultura and with the support of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC), the television show “Um Abraço em Beirute” [A Hug in Beirut], which started an extensive donation campaign for the Lebanese. The Tribute to Beirut, which will take place this year, has the support of the Brazilian Confederation of Goods Trade, Services, and Tourism (CNC). There will be no donation campaign.
The information was provided by the Consulate General of Lebanon in Rio de Janeiro. According to the consulate, the goal of the “Tribute to Beirut” show is to pay homage to Lebanon in a simple way, remembering the dead, their families, the victims, and the people who supported the country after the tragedy.
