Brasília – During a meeting in the White House with Brazil’s president Jair Bolsonaro, United States president Donald Trump said this Tuesday (19) that he supports Brazil’s efforts to join the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD). Trump also said Brazil-USA talks should move forward in military security and trade.
“We’re working on different military sites and military options (…), we’re working on visas. (…) Brazil makes great product and we make great product. So I think our trade with Brazil will go substantially up in both directions,” said Trump. Brazil made its bid for accession to the OECD in May 2017.
Brazil’s National Confederation of Industry (CNI) said the USA’s support is decisive when it comes to the OECD. “Brazil made great progress in policy convergence to join the OECD. It is the non-member country that adheres to the organization’s instruments the most – it has adhered to about 30% of instruments involving trade, taxes and governance, for instance. Moreover, the Brazilian government is committed to Social Security reforms and recognizes the importance of a Tax Reform,” CNI Trade Policy manager Constanza Negri said.
