São Paulo – Brazil exported 5,108 tonnes of fresh and processed eggs year-to-date through May, up 143.4% from a year ago, the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA) reported on Friday (24).
Over the period, egg sales fetched USD 7.008 million, up 150.3% from a year ago.
The United Arab Emirates remains the major destination of egg exports. Year-to-date through May, the Arab country imported 3,750 tonnes, up 335.5% from a year ago.
“Egg exports keep boosted by the recovery of the level of consumptions of the UAE market, generating foreign exchange earnings in a crucial moment for egg firms due to the massive increase in production costs across the global markets with rises in maize and soymeal prices,” ABPA president Ricardo Santin was quoted as saying in a news release.
In May only, Brazil shipped 470 tonnes of eggs, up 42% year-on-year, with revenue reaching USD 797,000, up 50.1%.
