São Paulo – The United Arab Emirates, the leading destination of egg exports from Brazil, stepped up by 50% its purchases in the first two months of the year from a year ago, industry association ABPA reported on Thursday (17). The Arab country brought in 3,500 tonnes of eggs from Brazil in January and February.
Overall egg exports from Brazil also posted good results in the first two months. Brazil shipped 4,400 tonnes, up 39% year on year. Revenue was up 51.4% to USD 6.25 million. These figures consider both raw and processed products.
Besides the UAE, countries that also bought more eggs from Brazil in the first two months include Oman, up 0.6% to 273 tonnes, and Japan, up 13% to 100 tonnes.
“The egg sector has turned to the international market to boostrevenues and reduce the impacts of production costs. And the efforts have created great results in demanding markets, which goes to prove the excellent work carried out by producers,” said Ricardo Santin, president of ABPA.
In February alone, Brazilian egg exports reached 2,090 tonnes for USD 3.1 million, up 35% and 50.6% respectively.
