São Paulo – The United Arab Emirates stepped up by 50% its poultry imports from Brazil in August, the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) reported. The Arab country was the second largest destination of the Brazilian product.
ABPA also highlighted the purchases of another Arab country, Libya. Libyans imported 8,900 tonnes of poultry from Brazil in August, up 161.5% from a year ago. The increase in sales to these Arab countries was above average.
Overall, Brazilian poultry exports were up 4.8% in August, to 379,900 tonnes, including raw and processed items. Revenue went up by 36.1% to USD 377.3 million. China was the top destination of exports at 57,400 tonnes, followed by the UAE and then Japan at 35,200 tonnes.
“The increased prices for poultry exports are the direct consequence of the international increase in production costs. Nevertheless, large value-added importing markets are more interested in Brazilian products, resulting in a markedly positive month and reinforcing the expectation of an all-time high in 2021’s overall exports,” ABPA chairman Ricardo Santin was quoted as saying in a news release.
