São Paulo – The School of Economics, Business and Accountancy of the University of São Paulo (FEA-USP) is hosting the Refugee Fair on August 30, from 11 am to 5 pm, at Cidade Universitária, in São Paulo. The event is free and open to the public.
The second edition of the event will have music concerts and food stands, clothing, accessories and handicraft from Syria (picture above, in last’s year edition), Venezuela, Colombia, Mozambique, Congo and Uganda, among other nationalities. A roundtable on the refugees’ job issue is scheduled, covering the difficulties faced by refugees when trying to validate their diplomas and to get a job in their professional areas here in Brazil.
The event is being organized by FEA Social, the student body that focus on the development of the third sector, acting as a consulting firm to NGOs and organizing humanitarian actions and events aimed at raising awareness to social issues.
“The fair aims to raise awareness and bring closer the students to the refugees’ issues, breaking down stereotypes that they are invading our country or stealing our jobs. Our country is for everyone and the refugees are very welcome,” said Camilla Pereira, an economics student who is part of the organization.
The organization expects around 200 people to attend the event at the Students Hall at FEA-USP. “We want to encourage the refugees to attend the fair, since they will be able to make contact to NGOs that can facilitate their integration and hiring in Brazilian companies,” said Pereira. The Refugees Fair was created by a partnership between NGOs Estou Refugiado, África do Coração, Abraço Cultural e Missão Paz.
