São Paulo – The National Force of Brazil’s health system SUS, a public program that responds to emergency health situations, completed its operation to assist repatriates from Lebanon with 2,442 medical services. The individuals assisted were Brazilian citizens and their families who had been living in Lebanon and were brought to Brazil on government flights due to the ongoing conflict in the Arab country.
According to information released by the Brazilian Ministry of Health, of the total number of services provided, 1,815 were psychosocial and 627 were healthcare-related. The services had been taking place since October 6 at the Guarulhos Air Base in São Paulo, in tents equipped for first aid, as well as spaces such as a playroom and prayer areas, respecting the cultural and religious aspects of the repatriates.
In total, Brazil received 13 repatriation flights. The health assistance team consisted of 169 professionals, including doctors, nurses, psychologists, and translators. They underwent training before providing services, and the team included individuals who spoke Arabic, French, English, and Portuguese, ensuring communication with all the repatriates.
