São Paulo – Over 46,000 people, among them 8,000 Brazilians, are fans of Lamice, the Lebanese singer who only plays on the Internet. Want to buy one of her CDs? A DVD? See a show? Your only chance is on the Web. Visiting the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, the singer said to ANBA that she’s an “e-artist” and that she believes that the internet is the best way to show her message. “If I play in São Paulo, only those who are here can see it. On the Internet, I can play to the world,” said the singer, who lives in Paris and is preparing to pack her bags and move to Brazil.
Lamice does not tell her true name to anyone. There is also no point in searching for pictures of her, as there are none. She has been playing and singing since she was 16 years old, but she only started her musical career in 2006. Since then, she has presented two songs “Summer days” and “Move on”, songs she classifies as “World pop”.
“Summer days”, says the artist, has Latin and Oriental rhythms and covers the importance of friendship. In the clip she even pays homage to Brazil. “Move on”, in turn, is an “incentive” to face hardships. Lamice already has a third song ready, but she has not yet recorded the video clip. “Maybe in Brazil? I would love to record here,” says the 38-year-old singer. Those visiting her site may even print the cover of the CD to have at home. “People may print it, burn a CD and have it at home. It’s an option.”
Lamice’s music is not only on her site. If you download application “100 recettes libanaises”, made for smartphones, in Arabic, Spanish, German or English, you may also listen to “Summer days” and “Move on”. “While preparing a Lebanese recipe on this application, you may listen to my music. It is a very nice idea because it brings two different groups together – the cooking group and the group that listens to my music. That is innovation,” said Lamice. The songs may also be downloaded on the internet, for US$ 0.99.
Lamice was born in Beirut, Lebanon, but at two years of age she moved to Paris with her family, where she studied and started working. Apart from a singer, she is a digital consultant to companies and has worked for enterprises all over the world. It was the procession that brought her to Brazil for the sixth time this month. In Paris, she received proposals to work in the country and came to Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo to meet with businessmen.
Her relations with Brazil are old. Her best friend is originally from Bahia and even taught her how to speak Portuguese. Lamice has already been to Salvador five times and says that she “loves” Brazil. “I always come to Brazil and then return to Europe, renewing my energies. Brazilians have a great desire to realize their dreams, to do what the wish for, something that is not seen anywhere else. Brazil inspires us to do what we plan,” she said. If the business opportunities come true, she may move to the country. “I do not yet know to what city or when, but I want to come here and also to develop my musical work here.”
