São Paulo – Arab Authority for Agricultural Investment and Development (AAAID) is working on identifying food supplying companies to make sure that Arab countries are supplied amid the Covid-19 pandemic. The AAAID put out a call for potential suppliers of 14 product types to get in touch.
The list includes wheat, rice, maize, potato, raw or processed vegetable oils, sugar, beef, milk and milk products, fruits including bananas, oranges and apples, poultry, eggs, fish, and animal feed. The AAAID is looking to chart out suppliers as well as demand across Arab countries. “Should there be demand or surplus of the following commodities in your region, please contact AAAID as soon as possible,” the note reads.
AAAID is a financial institution comprising 21 Arab member countries and based in Sudan. It works to help achieve food security through investment in agriculture and livestock farming projects and the provision of financing, among other things.
The AAAID also said it is putting in place an emergency mechanism to enable a steady stream of staple foods to Arab countries throughout the coronavirus crisis. Efforts will be focused on providing food needs, increasing inter-Arab trade, facilitating collaboration through AAAID affiliate companies and other companies, and providing current information on the surplus quantities of commodities available for export.
The association said the pandemic “has become a global crisis that has affected all sectors of the economy. The agriculture and food sector in the Arab countries will be one of the most affected sectors, as Arab countries import most of their basic food needs from abroad. The AAAID invites agricultural organizations and enterprises interested in its new emergency mechanism to get in touch.
