Rio de Janeiro – The 38th biodiesel auction conducted by Brazil’s National Petroleum Agency (ANP) resulted in the sale of 625.7 million liters of fuel. According to the ANP, 99% of this volume came from producers which have the Social Fuel seal, i.e. which fostered family farming programs. The auction was held to ensure the biodiesel supply to the Brazilian market in September and October, according to directives of the decree n. 476, from August 2012, of the Ministry of Mines and Energy.
The total value negotiated reached roughly US$ 530.24 million (at current exchange rates). According to the ANP, the volume negotiated will potentially provide for the trade of 10.4 billion liters for the July/August period this year, in the domestic oil diesel market. The auction started on the 8th, with the submission of bids by 41 producers.
The biodiesel auctions comply with the Provisional Measure 647/2014, which sets at 6% the minimum percentage of biodiesel added to diesel oil as sold to the final consumer (B6), as of July 1st this year.
