São Paulo – The Brazil-Lebanon Cultural Centre, in Beirut, is hosting a festival of Brazilian films about football to celebrate the FIFA World Cup. The BrasiLiban Football Cineclub sessions take place every Wednesday at 7:00 pm and admittance is free.
On the 25th, the event will feature Heleno. Starring Rodrigo Santoro and directed by José Henrique Fonseca, the movie tells the story of Heleno de Freitas, one of the icons of Rio-based team Botafogo. He played in the team from 1937 to 1948. The production portrays the rise and fall of Heleno, who took to alcohol and drugs and wound up at a mental hospital.
The documentary Zico na Rede, due to air on July 2nd, is about Zico, the number one idol of Flamengo fans. The film features statements from several former teammates and journalists. The production highlights footage from the footballer’s best goals.
The event will wrap up on July 9th with the comedy Romeo and Juliet Get Married. Directed by Bruno Barreto, the film tells the tale of Corinthians fan Romeo, who pretends to be a fan of rival team Palmeiras’ just to get in the good graces of his girlfriend’s father. Apart from being a die-hard Palmeiras fan, he is also the team’s counsellor. Corinthians and Palmeiras are archrivals in the state of São Paulo.
