São Paulo – The Foreign Trade secretary at the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, Welber Barral, said today (22nd) that Brazilian exports may reach US$ 172 billion in 2008, representing an increase of almost 10% over the US$ 157 billion forecasted for the current year. The statement was made during the opening ceremony of the 27th National Foreign Trade Conference (Enaex), in the southeastern Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro.
According to a press release issued by the Ministry, Barral also stated that Brazil should hold a 1.25% share of the global market by 2010, which would currently be the equivalent of US$ 208.8 billion in exports. According to the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Brazil now ranks among the 30 largest global exporters, and according to Barral, by 2010 the country should be among the 25 largest.
