Rio de Janeiro – Brazil’s crude steel output was 34.7 million tons in 2018, up 1.1% year-on-year, with flat-rolled steel amounting to 23.1 million tons, up 3.3%. The numbers were made public this Monday (21) by industry organization Instituto Aço Brasil.
According to the institute, domestic steel sales were 18.3 million tons, up 8.2% from 2017. Apparent consumption of steel products increased by 7.3% to 20.6 million tons.
Steel imports widened by 3.3% to 2.4 million tons. Expenditure-wise, imports were up 16.9% to USD 2.6 billion.
