São Paulo – The Jordan Ministry of Water and Irrigation will modernize and expand water distribution in the northern region of the country through a project divided into four phases, valued at approximately USD 60 million. According to information from the ministry released by the state news agency Petra, 25 communities in the Bani Kenana district, in the Irbid Governorate, will benefit from the initiative.
The main objective of the initiative is to modernize the water distribution network using techniques and equipment that result in lower energy consumption, reduced costs, and water conservation. At the same time, more people and rural properties are expected to be served in a region facing significant demographic pressure due to Syrian refugees.
The project includes the construction of a 16,000 cubic meter capacity water reservoir complex, the interconnection of existing reservoirs through 15 kilometers of new distribution networks, and an additional 545 kilometers of secondary water distribution.
Old or obsolete equipment still in use will be decommissioned and replaced with more efficient installations, and standardizations will be carried out on water connections in households. The investment will be financed by the European Investment Bank (EIB).
