São Paulo – Revenues from Brazilian footwear exports to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia widened in January this year compared with January 2015. The Brazilian Footwear Industry Association (Abicalçados) reports that the UAE imported USD 1.17 million worth of shoes from Brazil last month, up 17.9% from January 2015. Exports to Saudi Arabia reached USD 1.15 million, up 3.7% from a year ago.
The leading importer of Brazilian footwear, the United States imported USD 15.26 million in January. Next on the top importers list come France, Argentina, the United Kingdom and Italy. The United Arab Emirates rank 16th, with Saudi Arabia placed 17th.
Overall, Brazilian footwear exports grossed USD 69.3 million in January, down 4.1% from January 2015. The amount of shoes imported grew 4.5% to 11.4 million pairs. Average price dropped 8.2% to USD 6.06.
The average price per pair sold to Saudi Arabia also dropped, by 6.9%, from USD 9.04 in January 2015 to USD 8.42. In January this year, 137,300 shoe pairs were shipped from Brazil to the Arab country, up 11.3% from January 2015.
The average price per pair sold to the UAE increased, but shipped volume declined. Each pair cost USD 5.16 in January 2015 and USD 6.50 in January of this year, a 26.1% increase in price. Export volume dropped 6.5% to 181,100 pairs exported in January of this year.
