According to Tarso Genro, the Brazilian minister of Education, the government is going to propose the elaboration of a joint declaration to expand cooperation in the educational area. On Tuesday he met with Foreign Minister Celso Amorim to discuss the matter. The meeting took place one day after the meeting between minister Genro and the Arab ambassadors, where the teaching of Arabic in Brazil and of Portuguese in the Arab world was discussed.

The Arab Culture Institute was established in January by professors, writers and journalists from the state of São Paulo who were interested in spreading information about the Arab world in the country. The first official activity by the institute will be a photography exhibition about Palestine, in April. There is also a poetry recital and a cinema show scheduled for the first half of the year.

TV Brazil, a pilot station set up at the V World Social Forum (WSF) between January 26 and 31 in Porto Alegre, in southern Brazil, served as a guide for the creation of what will shortly become the first channel committed to the integration of South America. Transmissions should begin this year, and the channel should show documentaries about Brazil and other South American countries.
