A report prepared by the Emirati research and consulting company Market Vision, points Saudi Arabia as the major market in the Middle East for international tourism. The number of journeys abroad made by the population increased by 54% between 2001 and 2002. The greater part of Saudi tourists – 74% – stays at 4 and 5-star hotels when in other countries.
