The Brazilian slaughterhouse Friboi started producing and exporting organic beef at the end of 2004. Last year they shipped, on average, 24 tonnes of products per month and this year they expect to surpass 50 tonnes. The main destinations were the United Arab Emirates, France, Holland and Germany.

The Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) has established a technological centre with the objective of improving energy sources like castor seed and oil palm biodiesel. The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply has already turned R$ 10 million (US$ 4.9 million at current exchange rates) to the project.
