Poet and novelist Carlos Nejar, born and raised in the city of Porto Alegre, is a grandson of Lebanese and Syrians. He was born listening to his grandfather speaking in Arabic and participating in colony parties. Nejar is considered one of the great Brazilian poets. In an interview to ANBA, he discussed the Arab influence on his work.

In his address on being sworn in as the president of Brazil for his second term, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said that from now on measures will be taken to speed up economic growth and social inclusion. Law professor Jalusa Prestes Abaide, from the Federal University of Santa Maria, has been in the Arab country since February 2006 developing a study about the legal and economic consequences of tourism in environmental protection areas. She is going to stay in the country up to March next year.
