According to Tarso Genro, the Brazilian minister of Education, the government is going to propose the elaboration of a joint declaration to expand cooperation in the educational area. On Tuesday he met with Foreign Minister Celso Amorim to discuss the matter. The meeting took place one day after the meeting between minister Genro and the Arab ambassadors, where the teaching of Arabic in Brazil and of Portuguese in the Arab world was discussed.

The Arab Culture Institute was established in January by professors, writers and journalists from the state of São Paulo who were interested in spreading information about the Arab world in the country. The first official activity by the institute will be a photography exhibition about Palestine, in April. There is also a poetry recital and a cinema show scheduled for the first half of the year.

Carlos Tebecherani Haddad, from the Catholic University of Santos, took 10 years to organise the material that was based on his experience as a professor and on research in about 65 Arab language books, bought during journeys to Yemen, Lebanon, England, France and Spain. As an engineer, he has lived and worked in Saudi Arabia and Iraq.
