The theme was discussed yesterday during a meeting between Brazilian Foreign minister Celso Amorim and Abdelbaki Hermassi, his Tunisian counterpart, in Tunis. During the summit of Arab and South American countries, scheduled for May, there will be an Arab cinema show organized by Nadia Attia, the director of the Carthage Film Festival. Today, Minister Amorim should meet Tunisian president Zine Al-Abidine Ben Ali.

Brazilian and Kuwaiti businessmen discussed yesterday, at the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry, ways of levelling the trade balance between Brazil and that country. While Brazilian exports to Kuwait rose 73% in 2004, sales from the Arab country to the country in South America dropped 70%. One of the alternatives for reduction of this difference, according to ambassador Mario Vilalva, is investment by Brazilian companies in the Arab country.

The information was transmitted yesterday by minister Amorim to the Qatar vice prime minister, Hamad Bin Jaber Al-Tani, during the meeting in the capital city of Doha. Al-Tani stated that Qatar also plans on reopening their embassy in Brasilia. The meeting is part of the agenda for Amorim in his visit to nine Arab countries. He also visited the prince Sayyd Bin Tareq Bin Teimur Al-Said, from Oman. Today, the chancellor will open the activities for the Brazilian business mission in Kuwait.

In a meeting yesterday, in Riyadh, the secretary general of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Abdul Rahman Bin Hamad Al-Attiyad, and the Brazilian minister of Foreign Relations, Celso Amorim, committed to work so that a framework agreement, document which formalizes the beginning of negotiations, is signed during the summit for Arab and South American countries, in May. The chancellor also had a meeting with the Saudi crown prince, Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

Between February 21 and 24, the minister will be heading a trade mission to Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
