São Paulo – The 2nd Congress on Refugees and Global Change is accepting submissions to be presented in Fortaleza, Ceará. This edition will run from November 12 to 14 covering the topic “Freedom – Interculturality.” Pictured above, a lecture during the 1st Congress in 2018.
The event’s goal is to debate migrations, refuge and displacement of people from other countries or within the country. The Congress is accepting essays until October 30. The papers must be sent to the email refugiadosglobaistg@gmail.com.
The event is divided into six themes: Women and refuge; Nationalism, xenophobia and refuge; Ailing neoliberalism, work precarization and their influence on the migratory process; Quilombolas, native peoples, traditional peoples and land reform within environmental refuge; as well as Journalism, gender, and humanitarian issues.
The Congress was created by the Muslim Karine Garcêz, who explained that submissions may also include debates and round tables. “For example, we’ll have work groups on xenophobia and racism, covering the topic of Islamophobia,” she told ANBA.
The event will also feature the launch of the book Palestina: Do mito da terra prometida à terra da resistência [Palestine: From the myth of the promised land to the land of the resistance] by Sayid Marcos Tenorio. The author will be there on November 13 at 7 pm.
The Congress is organized by Viès – Nucleus of Political Economy of the School of Economy of the Federal University of Ceará, and takes place at the School’s building. The three-day event will include lectures and mini courses, as well as the essays.
