São Paulo – The Arab Culture Institute (Icarabe) will present this month the second module of its Culture and Arts in the Arab World course at SESC Paulista in São Paulo. The in-person classes will take place on June 9, 10, 16, and 17, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. each day. More information is available here.
According to Icarabe, the course proposes reflections on contemporary Arab culture, its identities, and its place in modernity, while considering the dilemmas and challenges it faces.
The first class of the module, “Arab Immigration in Brazil and Orientalist Imaginaries,” will be presented by Christina Queiroz, professor of the Edward Said Chair and Icarabe’s Communications Director. Researcher and translator Maria Carolina Gonçalves will lead the second session, “An Overview of Arabic Literature in Poetry and Prose.”
Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) Vice President of Marketing and historian Silvia Antibas will present the lecture “The Influence of Arab Immigration and Music in Brazil.” The module’s final class, “Introduction to Arab-Islamic Philosophy,” will be taught by Jamil Ibrahim Iskandar, Senior Professor of Philosophy at the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná.
The course is paid, with fees ranging from BRL 9 to BRL 30.
