São Paulo – The Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) reported this Thursday (3rd) that it disbursed R$ 68.7 billion (US$ 18.4 billion) in loans in the first six months of the year, down 18% from a year ago.
The sum from the preliminary stages of the bank’s loan granting process also dropped. Inquiries from businesses to the bank, for instance, reached US$ 60.7 billion (US$ 16.3 billion), down 47% from the first half of 2014. The total amount of loans approved, but pending disbursement was R$ 43.1 billion (US$ 11.5 billion), down 50%.
The BNDES said 37.8% of loans disbursed in the first months of this year went to infrastructure, followed by industry, at 29.5%, retail and services, at 22%, and agriculture, at 10.8%.
