Brasília – Electric energy consumption and generation in Brazil increased 2% in March, in comparison to the same period of last year. According to a preliminary report by the Electric Energy Trading Chamber (CCEE), released Thursday (05) evening, the increased in consumption was impacted directly by the rise in temperatures registered this year. Thus, the National Interlinked System (SIN) registered a consumption of 64,949 MW average.
Regarding energy generation, March reached 68,314 MW average. This shows an increase of 2% also over the same period of 2017. The report highlights that the production of hydropower plants went up 3.5% – the percentage also includes the generation of small hydroelectric plants.
In turn, wind power stations generation went up 9.3%, while nuclear and thermal power plants declined 35.4% and 10.1% respectively in the period. The explanation for the decline in thermal generation is the lower output of gas thermal plants, which stood at 14.1%.
