São Paulo – With dance performances and traditional food stands, Arab culture will be the theme of an event at Shopping D in the North Zone of São Paulo. The fourth edition of Shopping D nas Arábias will run this weekend, September 7-8. Pictured above is one of the previous editions of the event.
Exhibitors include refugees from the Middle East, particularly Syrians and Palestinians. The event will also feature exhibitors from Egypt and the United Arab Emirates. Supporting the refugee families, the organizers will accept donations of non-perishable food and warm clothes.
Dishes served include Moroccan rice, shawarma, saj, sfihas, kibbehs, falafel, Arab snacks, sweets and dates. Other attractions include henna tattoos, makeup, and coffee readings, a divination or fortune-telling method that interprets patterns in coffee grounds.
Brazilian dancer Dana El Fareda, world’s belly dancer champion, is one of the attractions. She won in the category Oriental Professional Egyptian Folklore in the Alhan Wa Sahlan 2017 Festival. Visitors may also watch concerts and performances like Dakbe, a traditional dance from Lebanon.
“Shopping D nas Arábias is an event that gives the audience a chance to experience something different and it also provides income and networking opportunities for refugee families,” Shopping D Marketing manager Cindy Beni said in a press release.
The event will run on Saturday from 12-10 pm and Sunday from 12 to 8 pm. Attractions will be at the ground floor parking lot of Shopping D on Avenida Cruzeiro do Sul, next to Armênia and Portuguesa-Tietê subway stations.
