São Paulo – Fibermaq, a machinery maker from the city of São Paulo, should start exporting to Algeria this year. The company is negotiating the sale of equipment to an Arab businessman who is going to set up a fibreglass product factory. Fibermaq produces machinery for transformation of composites, like fibreglass, polyurethane and epoxy, used, for example, to produce pools, car parts, bath tubs, chairs and electric material for encapsulation.
Fibermaq has been in operation for 32 years and has been exporting since the beginning of activities. According to the company owner, José Batista Andrade, machinery has already been sold to countries like Colombia, Paraguay, Argentina, Uruguay, the United Arab Emirates, South Africa and South Korea. Exports to the Emirates began, according to him, around five years ago and did not continue. With entrance into the market in Algeria, however, the company intention is to prospect further business with the Arab nations.
Andrade believes that there is market for Fibermaq machinery in the region as new factories are opening in the Arab world. Two of the raw materials that the factory transforms– polyurethane and epoxy – come from oil. Glass is made from sand. The equipment produced by Fibermaq includes injectors, gel-coaters, mixers and heaters, among others.
Fibermaq plans to grow around 25% this year. Sales, according to the company owner, should expand both on the domestic and on the foreign market, but the best performance is expected within the country. In the domestic market, Fibermaq should, according to him, continue selling, despite the lack of profit, “to open and maintain markets”. The current exchange rate between the real and the dollar makes exports harder, explained the businessman.
Today, around 7% of Fibermaq production is turned to the foreign market. Fibermaq is a family company with 35 employees. It has a unit in Santo Amaro, São Paulo. Production totals between 60 and 70 machines a year.
