São Paulo – The Brazilian government has again postponed the tender for concession of the high-speed rail connecting São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, and there is no set date anymore. The tender to select the railway line’s equipment supplier and operator was scheduled for next Friday (16th). According to the minister of Transports Cesar Borges, the tender auction will not take place for at least a year.
The government has however pledged to follow through with contracts for executive projects concerning the high-speed train line. There were fears that the tender would attract no interested parties, or only one group. Some companies from Spain and Germany have requested the postponement. The first auction took place in July 2011 and no interested parties attended.
