Brasília – The federal government’s administrative spending (maintenance) totaled BRL 22 billion (USD 5.71 billion) from January to November, against BRL 21.5 billion (USD 5.58 billion) in the same period of last year. Despite the nominal increase of 2.2%, the amount represents a real decline of 8.5% when the inflation adjustment is factored in as measured by the Extended National Consumer Price Index (IPCA).
The data was released by the Ministry of Planning in the new issue of the Administrative Spending Bulletin. From the seven expenses groups analyzed, only expenses with electric energy increased above the inflation rate, going from BRL 1 billion (USD 259 million) to BRL 1.5 billion (USD 389 million), a hike of 32%. According to the ministry, the reason was the power tariffs corrections.
The other expense groups declined below the inflation rate. According to the ministry of Planning, the steepest decline occurred in the payment of daily allowances and airline tickets (-36.1%), followed by consumption material expenses (-12.2%) and renting, maintenance and real estate conservation expenses (-11.9%). Spending with communication services, provision of support services and cleaning and sanitation services declined, in real terms, 10.4%, 5.4% and 4.6%, respectively.
