São Paulo – In August, Halal do Brasil project will hold the new edition of its Buyer Project. Over a week, potential clients from Muslim-majority countries will have business meetings with Brazilian food and beverage suppliers. The foreign visitors will also be invited to trips across Brazil and technical visits to halal food manufacturers. Registration to participate in the Buyer Project is now open for Brazilian companies.
The Halal do Brasil project is spearheaded by the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil) to promote made-in-Brazil halal foods and beverages abroad. Halal means fit for Muslim consumption.

Malaysia: 1.9 billion halal consumers
Several activities are held by the Halal do Brasil project, including the promotion of Brazilian foods and beverage in overseas fairs. This year, for example, the project will participate in September’s MIHAS exhibition in Malaysia and December’s Food Africa in Egypt. The Buyer Project is another activity developed by Halal do Brasil.
This edition, scheduled for August 5-11, fifteen buyers from Arab countries, Malaysia, Indonesia, and South Africa will come to Brazil, with all travel expenses covered by the project, to meet with Brazilian firms for three days of B2Bs in São Paulo.
Project focuses on industrialized goods
Several Brazilian companies, particularly of industrialized and higher value-added goods, are being invited to the B2Bs. Registration can be made through this link. Candy, honey, jam, coffee, açaí, meats and foodgrain producers have already confirmed their presence.
On the other days of the program, technical visits will be held to Brazilian halal manufacturers in different cities of o the country. The 15-people group will be divided into smaller groups so that each team can visit a region of Brazil. By the end of the visit, all will participate in a closing event in Foz do Iguaçu in southern state Paraná, which borders Argentina and Paraguay.
ABCC international projects manager Fernanda Dantas says the buyer project is an opportunity for exporters to access foreign markets at a lower cost compared to traveling outside Brazil.
“It’s a major opportunity to have a first contact with buyers from a distant country at a low cost. It’s an opportunity to meet with potential clients with all the support [from Halal do Brasil] which gives fledgling exporters access,” says Dantas.
For international buyers, it’s an opportunity to tap into Brazil and its know-how in halal production, despite Brazil not being a Muslim-majority country. “Foreign clients really like coming to Brazil. Devising immersion events in local markets is always rich because foreigners discover the quality and technology of our product, which makes all the difference in positioning Brazil as a powerhouse,” she says.
Importers of halal goods
Dantas says the Buyer Project has diversified the invitations for foreign buyers beyond Arab countries and sought to attract distributors and supermarket chains to this edition on account of their capacity to buy higher volumes and a wider variety of products.
The State of the Global Islamic Economy Report indicates the approximately 1.9 billion Muslim consumers living in Arab and non-Arab countries spend over USD 2 trillion on halal goods, services and travel.
