Rio de Janeiro – Industrial output was up June-on-March in seven out of 14 states surveyed by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE, in the Portuguese acronym). The regional indexes were issued this Tuesday (7th). The state of Amazonas posted a 5.2% increase, recovering part of the 7.4% decline seen from May to March 2012.
Positive results were also recorded in the states of Espírito Santo (2.3%), Pernambuco (2.2%), Bahia (2.1%), Minas Gerais (1.3%), São Paulo (1.0%) and in the Northeast Region (0.5%).
Industrial output was down in the following states: Goiás (-6.0%), Rio de Janeiro (-4.3%), Pará (-4.2%), Paraná (-3.7%) and Rio Grande do Sul (-3.1%). Output was also down, to a lesser extent, in Ceará (-2.2%) and Santa Catarina (-1.4%).
In the first half of 2012, output was down in eight of the 14 states surveyed. The sharpest declines took place in Rio de Janeiro (-7.1%), Amazonas (-6.3%), São Paulo (-5.9%) and Espírito Santo (-5.9%), whose rates of reduction were higher than the national average (-3.8%).
