Brasília – In Brazil, 8,381 formal jobs were created in November, according to data from the General Register of Employed and Unemployed Persons (Caged, in the Portuguese acronym) released this Thursday (18th) by the Brazilian Ministry of Labour. The number is the difference between admissions (1,613,006) and dismissals (1,604,625).
Jobs creation is down 88% from 69,361 jobs in November 2013, based on seasonally adjusted data – i.e. considering information supplied belatedly. Based on non-adjusted data, 47,486 jobs were created in November 2013, down 82%.
Year-to-date through November, 938,043 jobs were created, the lowest amount since 2003, when 860,887 formal jobs were created in the country, according to adjusted data released by the ministry.
The ministry has reported that the poor labour market performance in November was driven by civil construction, in which 48,894 jobs were closed, followed by the processing industry (-43,700 jobs) and agriculture (-32,127 jobs). Retail had 105,043 additional job positions, and services had 29,526 new posts.
