São Paulo – Scholars and experts in the universe of Arab immigration in Brazil will address their research, life stories, and reflections on livestreams over the week. The program is held by Marcia Dib, who holds a master’s degree in Arab culture, and historian Marcia Valdivia on Dib’s Instagram page on the occasion of Brazilian Arab Community Day celebrated on Monday (25).
The livestreams take place from Monday to Friday (29) at 1 pm. They started on Monday featuring journalist Diogo Bercito, who holds a master’s degree in Arab studies from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and the Georgetown University and is the author of non-fiction Brimos, which addresses the participation of Syrian and Lebanese immigrants and their descendants in Brazilian politics.
Tuesday (26) will see the participation of Heloisa Abreu Dib Julien, who hold’s a bachelor’s degree in history and coordinates the Digitization Project of the Memory of the Syrian and Lebanese Immigration in Brazil, a partnership between the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik, also known as USEK, in Lebanon and the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC). She coordinates projects for the preservation of iconographic and bibliographical collections on the immigration and was a member of the Institute for Arab Culture.
Wednesday (27) is the turn of Palestinian Rafat Alnajjar. Gaza-born Alnajjar is a mathematician, teacher and merchant and seeks to promote his language and culture.
The livestream on Thursday (28) features Juliana Mouawad Khouri, who holds a master’s degree in Arab studies and has specialized in Syrian and Lebanese immigration in Brazil.
The program is closed on Friday by Professor Valdivia, a post-doctoral researcher in history, and Dib herself, who has authored the book “Música Árabe: expressividade e sutileza” [Arab Music: Expressiveness and Subtlety].
