Brasília – The Brazilian government issued a note this Monday (5) on the Official Gazette authorizing the National Energy Policy Council to carry out the fourth round of tenders for marginal oil fields. Thirteen blocks will be auctioned for oil extraction in the Espírito Santo, Potiguar and Recôncavo basins.
Now, the National Oil, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP) can proceed with auctioning the blocks, which are located in inactive marginal areas. The auction date is yet to be set. Marginal fields are those where, for some reason, oil extraction ceases to be profitable for a given operator, but could potentially be viable for another company – usually a smaller one.
