São Paulo – Mergers and acquisitions grew 9.1% in Brazil in the first quarter of this year as against the three previous months, according to information disclosed by consultancy company KPMG. In total, there were 192 deals, as against 176 from October to December last year.
The volume, however, was below that recorded in the first quarter of 2012, when there were 204 mergers and acquisitions. The number of operations from January to March this year was the second best result in the history of the research, only less than in the first quarter of 2012.
The highlight was the transactions between Brazilian companies. They totalled 92 mergers and acquisitions. The number of acquisition of international companies by Brazilian organisations totalled 13. The information technology sector led the ranking, with 26 deals.
