São Paulo – Brazil received 5.8 million foreign tourists in 2012 and should receive 6.2 million this year, an all-time high, according to figures released by the Ministry of Tourism. A preliminary survey conducted by the Economic Research Institute Foundation (Fipe) shows that during the Confederations Cup alone, 25,000 tourists from outside Brazil visited the country.
Most foreigners in Brazil look for the sun and the beach, according to a study from the Ministry. Those factors motivated 62.1% of foreign tourists to Brazil in 2011, as against 55.9% in 2005. The second favourite activity of foreign tourists in the country is contemplating nature, followed by eco-tours and adventures. Nine out of ten visitors intend to return to Brazil in the future, according to the Ministry.
