Rio de Janeiro – Brazilian oil and natural gas production in May this year reached 2.721 million barrels per day, up from 2.67 million in January 2012 – the previous all-time high.
According to the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), output last month stood at 2.189 million barrels of oil per day and 84.5 million cubic metres (m³) of natural gas per day.
Compared with May 2013, oil output was up 9.8% and natural gas output was up 12.9%. May-on-April, output increased by 2% in both cases.
According to a ANP report, natural gas output volume, at 84.5 million m³, was an all-time high, surpassing the prior record, 83.4 million m³, set in March this year.
According to the agency, 90.9% of oil and natural gas production originated from oilfields operated by Petrobras, and 92.2% of oil production and 72.7% of natural gas originated from offshore fields.
