Rio de Janeiro – Petrobras announced today (14th) the discovery of one more light oil field in the pre-salt layer in Santos Basin. The discovery was in bloc BM-S-9, which is composed of two areas for evaluation: the area of well 1-SPS-50, denominated Carioca, and the area of well 1-SPS-55, called Guará.
New well 4-SPS-60, named Iguaçu, is located in the assessment area of Carioca Field, 340 kilometres away from São Paulo, at a depth of 2,140 metres.
The area is explored by the consortium made up of Petrobras (the operator with 45% participation), BG Group (30%) and Repsol (25%). The discovery was proved through an oil-sampling test made in the reservoirs located at an approximate depth of 4,900 meters.
