Rio de Janeiro – Petrobras has found a light oil well at ultra-deep waters in the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin, on the Brazilian Northeast coast. The new well is located on block Seal-M-424, in which the company holds a 100% stake.
Since August, Petrobras has made four discoveries at the basin. Oil was found in three wells drilled between August and October. The new well, dubbed Muriú, is at a water depth of 2,583 metres.
Muriú is 85 kilometres away from the Sergipe state capital Aracaju. Petrobras informed that it will proceed with research and data collection concerning the rock and the oil found in the well. Next, an evaluation and discovery plan will be submitted to the National Oil, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP, in the Portuguese acronym).
