Brasília – The Ministry of Culture reports that it intends to open 1,300 new public libraries by the year 2006. The libraries will be established in locations that do not have libraries. The project is part of a new "Hunger for Books" program launched by minister of Culture, Gilberto Gil.
"The idea is to provide access to reading in a democratic manner for everyone everywhere in the country," explained Galeno Amorim, who is coordinating the program
