São Paulo – Qatar Airways has entered the metaverse with a virtual reality experience on its website. In the QVerse, the company invites travelers to take a virtual journey of discovery before their next trip.
Users of the QVerse website can virtually stroll through the check-in area at Hamad International Airport (DOH) in Doha, the company’s hub, and discover the interior of the aircraft’s cabin, including the business class – Qsuite – and economy class. The Qatari state-owned company is also the first airline to have a MetaHuman cabin crew, with an interactive digital experience.
“With physical boundaries beginning to be challenged by the metaverse on an ever-increasing scale, it is exciting to adopt technology that allows all travel enthusiasts to enjoy a uniquely immersive experience of our products and services,” said Qatar Airways Group CEO Akbar Al Baker.
The experience was developed using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine, a real-time 3D creation tool, and MetaHuman Creator, a cloud-based application for creating high-fidelity digital humans. The MetaHuman cabin crew presents a digitally created high-fidelity 3D human model called ‘Sama,’ an Arabic name meaning ‘sky.’ ‘Sama’ offers an interactive user experience through engagement while introducing the features of Business and Economy Class cabins.
Qatar Airways is considered one of the world’s best airlines and is an official sponsor of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar.
