São Paulo — Rabat, Morocco’s capital, is among the destinations recommended by Lonely Planet, a leading travel guide publisher, for tourism next year. The city is featured in Best in Travel 2027, according to information released Wednesday (14) by Moroccan airline Royal Air Maroc. The 2027 edition features 25 destinations and 25 experiences selected by experts based on recommendations from contributors who have visited or lived in the places.
“Rabat makes us proud because it brings together Morocco’s history and the energy of a city that continues to create and welcome new ideas. We want Brazilians to discover this side of the country, take the time to experience it and return with their own discoveries. Its proximity to Casablanca makes it possible to combine both cities in one trip, while our expanded flights and commitment to onboard comfort make this invitation even more timely for 2027,” said Othman Baba, Royal Air Maroc’s regional director for South America, in a statement.
Royal Air Maroc operates direct flights between São Paulo International Airport and Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca, about 90 kilometers from Rabat. The airline resumed direct flights between Brazil and Morocco in December 2024 after a suspension due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It currently operates four weekly flights using Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners and will increase the frequency to five weekly flights in late October this year.
Rabat is home to Morocco’s government and royal family, combining palaces and institutions with a lifestyle shaped by beaches and surfing. According to material released by Royal Air Maroc, this blend offers visitors a variety of landscapes and activities. The city has historic sites, museums and architecture for art enthusiasts, Atlantic beaches and neighborhoods ideal for an afternoon of shopping, cafés and restaurants. Hassan Tower, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V and Chellah are among its main historical landmarks, while the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art and the Royal Theater of Rabat offer other perspectives on the city.
Alongside Morocco’s Rabat, other Arab destinations featured in Lonely Planet’s 2027 travel recommendations are Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, and Oman, both Gulf countries. The list also includes São Tomé and Príncipe in Africa, Italy’s Veneto region, New Mexico in the United States, Astana in Kazakhstan, Granada in Nicaragua, and Japan’s Tohoku region, among others.
