São Paulo – Registrations for the 2019/2 Celpe-Bras (Certificate of Proficiency in Portuguese Language for Foreigners) exam, the only Brazilian Portuguese certificate officially recognized by the Brazilian government, are open. Deadline to enroll is August 18.
Exams will run until October 16 to 18. They have some parts, including a written and an oral test. General information on the application are on the INEP’s website.
The exam is required by universities to enroll in undergrad and grad schools and is internationally accepted by companies and education institutions as a proof of competence in the Portuguese language. The document is also required for the naturalization process for foreigners in Brazil.
The exam is organized by the Anísio Teixeira National Institute of Education Research (INEP) affiliated to the Ministry of the Education (MEC) and is applied all over Brazil and in other countries as well. The Federal University of São Carlos applies the exams since 2009. Other locations in the state of São Paulo are the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) and the Methodist University in São Bernardo do Campo. Other locations in Brazil are listed here.
